What’s really making you react

2,900 hrs

time spent breathing this in every year

95%

of allergens is contained in what the mites leave behind, not the mites themselves

No.1

your mattress. It holds more dust mite allergens than anywhere else in your home

Here’s the part most people get wrong: dust mites don’t bite. You react to what they leave behind.

Four months of build-up removed from one mattress, with a coin for scale

You treat the symptoms, now remove the cause.

The purifier filters the room. The hot wash deals with the linen that lies on top. The antihistamine calms the reaction after it starts. And the biggest indoor source sits centimetres from your face — all night, every night.

Air purifier Filters the room’s air. Never touches the surface you breathe against.
Hot linen wash Deals with the sheet. The reservoir underneath is untouched.
New pillows Swaps one part of the sleep surface. The mattress — the main reservoir — stays.
Antihistamines Manage the reaction. Do nothing about what causes it.
Vacuuming it yourself Your intentions are good, but make sure you are using the correct, AFSA-approved equipment.

None of it is wrong. It’s just aimed at the wrong target.

Beneath the surface

Why the stain was never the problem, and what steam cleaning leaves behind.

Steam cleaning your mattress? Think again: a mattress cut open to show the layers where moisture and allergen sit below the surface

Don’t take our word, ask those who treat allergies for a living.

"If you're going to focus on one area of your sleep environment, start with the mattress. It's often the most overlooked contributor to allergen exposure."

Dr Jill Warner BSc PhD Honorary Professor, University of Cape Town

"As a family physician, I treat so many patients suffering from allergies. I always recommend that the first line of defense against allergies is prevention, and that starts in the home, especially in our beds. The CleanMyBed service is an innovative technology that addresses one of the most important potential sites of house dust mites and is showing great results in helping my patients and my own son who struggles with asthma."

Dr Andrew Bovim Family Physician · MBChB, MRCGP (UK), Dip. Child Health · Cape Town

"Removing pet dander, skin flakes and other particulate matter from our mattresses can effectively reduce the replication of dust mites. I highly recommend CleanMyBed, their technology is world class and they provide a thorough and efficient service."

Dr Thulja Trikamjee Paediatrician & Allergologist · UCT Lung Institute

"Sleep hygiene is as important as personal hygiene. A clean mattress isn’t a luxury. It’s a health essential."

Do the maths, you’re already paying, just at the wrong end.

Antihistamines, sprays, GP visits, but the source… never leaves.

Remove the source for under R7 a day. Less than your coffee.

The questions we get most.

What happens after I fill in the form?

A real person from your area gets back to you — no bots, no call centre. We talk through your symptoms and whether your bed is a likely source, and you get an exact price before anything is booked. If it’s not your bed, we tell you and leave you in peace.

Can mattress cleaning and sanitising cure my allergy?

No, it does not cure pre-existing allergies, but regular cleaning will help to reduce the severity and frequency of allergy reactions. In the case of asthmatics, 85% of sufferers are allergic to house dust mite fecal matter.

How is this different to steam cleaning?

No consumables are used. No water, no chemicals, so no odour, no residue and no drying time is needed. The CleanMyBed service is safe, fast, simple and effective.

How often does a bed need to be serviced?

Allergists, paediatricians, allergy foundations and doctors alike recommend regular cleaning of beds. The American Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (AAAI) advises vacuuming your beds every two to three months. Good Housekeeping magazine recommends vacuuming your mattress every three weeks, while other sources recommend vacuuming on a monthly basis. At the very least, make the mattress vacuum a part of your seasonal cleaning.

In hospitality, every time guests check out you should sanitise the bed, the same way you change the sheets.

What chemicals or detergents are used?

None. The process is chemical-free, with no odours or liquid residue, and no drying time is needed. CleanMyBed sanitises your mattress and pillows with UVC germicidal light to remove skin cells and other pathogen fodder which in turn helps protect your family from asthma, eczema and other common allergies.

How long must I wait until I can use the bed?

You can curl up in bed immediately. Unlike the alternatives, with UVC there is no down time which, if you are an Airbnb host or guesthouse, is ideal and will save you money.

Will my mattress cover protect me?

If you use mattress covers, it is vital the mattress is cleaned prior to covering it again as you risk trapping everything inside the cover otherwise.

Are children more prone to dust mite sensitivity or are you born allergic to dust mites?

There is evidence to show that growing up in environments where there's high dust mite exposure they will be more likely to develop allergy problems, asthma or both.
