FAQ’s

What is UVC?

UVC (ultraviolet) germicidal light is a process of sanitisation using short wavelength ultraviolet light to inactivate or kill microorganisms and pathogens. CleanMyBed uses RemUVe technology – the only process of UVC sanitisation using medically certified technology to ensure a clean, healthy bed that removes allergens and promotes a good night’s sleep.

How often does a bed need to be cleaned?

Allergists, paediatricians, allergy foundations and doctors alike recommend regular cleaning of beds. The American Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (AAAI) advises vacuuming your beds every two to three months. Good Housekeeping magazine recommends vacuuming your mattress every three weeks, while other sources recommend vacuuming on a monthly basis. At the very least, make the mattress vacuum a part of your seasonal cleaning.

In hospitality, every time guests check out you should sanitise the bed, the same way you change the sheets.

How is this different to steam cleaning?

No consumables are used. No water, no chemicals, so no odour, no residue and no drying time is needed. The CleanMyBed service is safe, fast, simple and effective.

Is the process different depending on the size of the bed?

No. The dose and the process are exactly the same, irrespective of size. Dosage in any sanitising process is always calculated by energy and exposure time, which must be constant. The further away from the surface, the less effective the dosage. So, energy x time = dose.

Will my mattress cover protect me?
If you use mattress covers, it is vital the mattress is cleaned prior to covering it again as you risk trapping everything inside the cover otherwise.
I am a small guesthouse owner. How will my guests know the bed has been sanitised?
For hospitality and enhanced cleaning protocols CleanMyBed will leave you with a verification certificate for each bed after every visit, giving you and your guest peace of mind that they are sleeping in the cleanest beds in the country. It’s an excellent service for boutique hotels, yacht charters and AirBnB accommodation too.
Can mattress cleaning and sanitising cure my allergy?
No, it does not cure to pre-existing allergies, but regular cleaning will help to reduce the severity and frequency of allergy reactions. In the case of asthmatics 85% of sufferers are allergic to house dust mite fecal matter.
Remind me how the process works?

The CleanMyBed process first removes dead skin cells using HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) vacuum technology, and then UVC germicidal light to sanitise. This dual process ensures no allergens or pathogens, or their food source, physically remain on and in your mattress.
It’s powered by RemUVe, an Australian medical grade technology, and endorsed by the WHO, the World Trade Organisation and medical facilities around the world with 99.99% success for over 100 years.

How long does the process take?

The entire process takes about five minutes per bed.

Is this applicable for my home?

Absolutely. Sanitising your family’s beds is essential and should be part of your home cleaning routine. Did you know, we shed over 500g’s of dead skin cells every year? Skin cells contain bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms, and beds contain millions of colony-forming viruses and bacteria, and it’s not just dead skin cell they feed off. With CleanMyBed, you can bring hospital grade hygiene and allergen removal to your home, safeguarding you and your family from allergy triggers.

What chemicals or detergents are used?

None. The process is chemical-free, with no odours or liquid residue, and no drying time is needed. CleanMyBed sanitises your mattress and pillows with UVC germicidal light to remove skin cells and other pathogen fodder which in turn helps protect your family from asthma, eczema and other common allergies.

How long must I wait until I can use the bed?

You can curl up in bed immediately. Unlike the alternatives, with UVC there is no down time which, if you are an Airbnb host or guesthouse, is ideal and will save you money.

Once I’ve used the CleanMyBed service, how else can I keep my child’s bedroom dust-mite-free?

Wash your child’s bedding weekly, and that includes all sheets, blankets, pillowcases and bedcovers in hot water that is at least 54.4 C, to kill dust mites and remove allergens. Vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture regularly. Use a vacuum cleaner with a double-layered microfilter bag or a HEPA filter to help decrease house-dust emissions from the cleaner. If your child’s allergies are severe, he or she should wait about two hours before going back in the vacuumed room.

Are children more prone to dust mite sensitivity or are you born allergic to dust mites?
There is evidence to show that growing up in environments where there’s high dust mite exposure they will be more likely to develop allergy problems, asthma or both.
