FAQ’s

What is UVC?

UVC (ultraviolet) germicidal light is a process of sanitisation using short wavelength ultraviolet light to inactivate or kill microorganisms and pathogens with a success of 99.99% success (a 4 log reduction)

How often does a bed need to be cleaned?

Allergists, pediatricians, allergy foundations and doctors alike recommend regular cleaning of beds. The American Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (AAAI) advises vacuuming your beds every three to four months for allergy sufferers or every 6 months for maintaining good hygiene. At the very least, make the mattress vacuum a part of your seasonal cleaning.

How is this different to steam cleaning?

No consumables are used. No water, no chemicals, so no odour, no residue and no drying time is needed. The CleanMyBed service is safe, fast, simple and effective.

Is the process different depending on the size of the bed?

No. The dose and the process are exactly the same, irrespective of size. Dosage in any sanitising process is always calculated by energy and exposure time, which must be constant. The further away from the surface, the less effective the dosage. So, energy x time = dose.

Will my mattress cover protect me?
If you use mattress covers, it is vital the mattress is cleaned prior to covering it again as you risk trapping everything inside the cover otherwise.
I am a guesthouse owner. How will my guests know the bed has been sanitised?

For hospitality and enhanced cleaning protocols CleanMyBed will leave a verification certificate for each bed after every visit, giving you and your guests peace of mind that they are sleeping in the cleanest beds.

Can mattress cleaning and sanitising cure my allergies?

No, it does not cure pre-existing allergies, but regular cleaning can help to reduce the severity and frequency of allergy reactions.

Remind me how the process works?

The CleanMyBed process first removes the build up of dead skin using HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) vacuum technology, and then UVC (germicidal light) to sanitise. This dual process ensures no allergens or pathogens, or their food source, physically remain on and in your mattress using medical grade technology.

How long does the process take?

The entire process takes about 20 minutes per bed.

Is this applicable for my home?

Absolutely. Sanitising your family’s beds is essential and should form part of any house keeping routine. CleanMyBed brings medical grade hygiene and allergen removal to your home, safeguarding you and your family from allergy triggers.

What chemicals or detergents are used?

None. The entire process is chemical-free, no odours or liquid residue, so no drying time is required.

How long must I wait until I can use the bed?

You can curl up in bed immediately. Unlike the alternatives, with UVC there is no down time which if you are in hospitality venue, is ideal and will save you money.

Once I’ve used the CleanMyBed service, how else can I keep my child’s bedroom dust-mite-free?

Wash your child’s bedding weekly, and that includes all sheets, blankets, pillowcases, mattress protectors and bedcovers in hot water that is at least 54.4 C, to kill dust mites and remove allergens. Vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture regularly. Only use vacuums fitted with HEPA filters to help decrease house-dust emissions from the vacuum device. When removing and reapplying bed linen avoid shaking sheets, which further disperse allergen triggers back into the air, instead fold and unfold bed sheets when removing and reapplying.

Are children more prone to dust mite sensitivity or are you born allergic to dust mites?

Evidence shows that growing up in environments where there’s high exposure to allergen triggers they will be more likely to develop allergy and respiratory problems.
